The 2013 Jeep Wrangler is now just as ready for adventuring on or off road as it looks and is surprisingly very tolerable for your daily commute. The Wrangler no longer has the cheap parts-bin look interior, instead it’s a much more modern, curvy, yet all genuine jeep look, hell you can even flip the windshield down to hold true to it’s past.
The two door jeep Wrangler is comes in either Wrangler Sport, the very popular Sport S, Sahara or Rubicon trim all with standard four wheel drive. Last year in 2012 Jeep introduced it’s new Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 to the Wrangler line up and of course is available again for 2013 models, along with a new five-speed automatic transmission. A six-speed manual is still standard, but the V-6 and automatic combination can now dash from 0-60 mph in a much faster 8.4 seconds for the 4 door Wrangler Unlimited or 7.7 seconds for the two door jeep Wrangler. It also has a 16-mpg EPA city rating which is the same as the 2012 jeep wrangler.
Electronic stability control with roll control, traction control, brake assist and hill hold control are now standard on all jeep Wranglers. The Wrangler in Sahara trim offers body color flares, Infinity speakers, remote key-less entry, power windows, security alarm and 18-inch wheels and tires. The Wrangler in Rubicon trim features equipment that most off-road enthusiasts usually add, including heavy duty axles, front and rear electronic locking differentials, 32 inch BF Goodrich mud tires, sway bar disconnect, rock rails and a heavy-duty transfer case that has 4:1 low-gear ratio. The again available for 2013 Wranglers freedom top three-piece modular hardtop, allows panels to be removed above the driver and or passenger side.
Other options are Dual Top Group, half doors, remote starting system, Air conditioning, automatic climate control, front seat-mounted side air bags, heated seats, a multimedia infotainment system that has a 28-gigabyte hard drive and a great navigation system.
- Off road, it’s the king baby!
- Real truck toughness/perf
- There’s nothing else like it
- On road handling could be better
- Bouncy, jittery stiff ride
- Prices can vary and be steep
About the only complaint we have with the 2013 Wrangler Sport is with the old (but still very rugged) recirculating-ball steering gear and its steering dullness.
