2013 Shelby GT500 Good Looks Big Power!

The 2013 Shelby GT500 has good looks with big power to back it up! The 2013 Shelby GT500 now has 662 bhp on tap at 6250 rpm and sports a serious 631 lb.-ft. of torque coming in at 4000 rpm with a red-line at 6250 rpm (can tolerate 7000 rpm),  this is truly a beast! Running the 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds. Ford’s performance SVT crew has improved the car greatly in many areas to create a well-balanced Shelby GT500 that’s totally at home on any road course yet is still remarkably very civil in everyday driving situations.

The new 2013 Shelby GT500 has a dohc 5.8-liter V-8, which has the same stroke as the previous Shelby 5.4 but now has had the bore size increased from 90.5 to 93.5 mm. The Shelby’s aluminum block is built in Germany and is built to handle all that new found power. The Shelby comes with a forged crankshaft, pistons and rods, while the camshafts are similar to those used in the previous super-car, it now has increased fuel injector flow, improved head gaskets and exhaust valves that can withstand the added cylinder pressure place against the new aluminum-block.

The Shelby’s 6-speed manual transmission is the only gearbox available and has been considerably strengthened as well as the the internal bearings. The Shelby now has a new clutch, which is a dual-disc unit from ZF and comes with much stronger springs, increased clamping load and ultra performance friction material. Another very neat performance upgrade is the new drive-shaft, which is a single carbon-fiber piece that now has 36 percent more torque capacity and only weighs in at 14.4 lbs. which is much less than the old steel 2-piece unit previously used. SVT engineers praise the extra stiffness of this shaft and is perfectly balanced to handle the cars now 202 mph top speed. Of equal importance, the Shelby’s new six-piston Brembo mono-block calipers and 15-inch front rotors do an excellent job of hauling the car down from speed, aided by its big 13.8-inch rear units and rear P285/35R Z-rated Goodyear Eagle Supercar Tires.

2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Review and Specs

The 2013 Shelby Mustang GT500 is the last Shelby Mustang Carroll Shelby had a hand in building and believe you me, this Shelby Mustang holds true to the legacy of the
legendary racer and auto designer. The 2013 Shelby GT500 is one bad Mustang that packs more power than any sane individual would ever need and simply demands your respect!

The sheer muscle contained in the engine bay is un-godly. The Shelby sports a 5.8-liter V8 supercharged engine, that puts out a massive dose of horsepower. The SAE has rated the engine at producing 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque and a 36 percent bump to the inter-cooler heat exchanger’s capacity. which by the way officially makes this Shelby the world’s most powerful production V8. The Shelby now has a very impressive 395 lb-ft that is available just off idle at 1,000rpm, which makes the car an ideal burnout machine, if that’s your thing!

The GT500 achieves 60 mph in approximately 3.5 seconds and the quarter mile mark passes in 11.6 seconds at 125.7 mph, and this Shelby Mustang will do a legit 200 mph when pushed to the max. To slow this beast down it receives big 15-inch front discs and 12-inch rear discs with six-piston Brembo calipers which stop this beast from 60 mph in about 102 feet. Part of the cars stopping equation are the wheels and tires  which the Shelby GT500 offers two brand new sets of forged-aluminum wheels, now including a unique wheel for cars with the optional packages. The front 19-inch and the rear 20-inch wheels are coupled with Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car G2 tires.

Shifting the Shelby is handled exclusively by a six-speed manual transmission, which also has increased torque and rpm capacity due to its dual-clutch design. The Shelby also has new down-force-generating front grille, a new and more aggressive front splitter, a new quad exhaust system, a defeatable launch control system and a new optional SVT Performance Package featuring Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers and Torsen limited-slip differential. Additional Track Package features are an external engine oil cooler, rear differential oil cooler and transmission oil cooler and it also has revised gearing to better distribute the uprated power to the ground.
